The Demarcated Region

Located in Northwestern Portugal, the Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes occupies a vineyard area of nearly 21 thousand ha and is spread throughout the whole of the region, in the area best known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho.

It has been branded as a Demarcated Region in 1908, one of the oldest wine-making regions in Portugal.

The Vinho Verde has a number of factors which help define its special type of wine: the spark in the Whites and the intense colour and joviality in the Reds, resulting from soil characteristics, the climate and the type of grapes used.

Light, aromatic and refreshing, all these are qualities that give Vinho Verde the unique characteristics of such a special beverage. The technical evolution was ever present throughout several generations, leading to the existence of high quality and internationally recognized wines in the market.
